Rules for the use of restricted spaces in the airspace of the Czech Republic

1. Correct altimeter setting

1. When flying below 5000 ft (1500 m) inclusive, it is necessary to set the altimeter to the QNH of the nearest airport. The best way to find out the QNH value is by listening to an automatic report via a mobile phone or on the Internet ibs.rlp.cz:

  • Prague – Ruzyně: +420 220 378 300
  • Brno – Tuřany: +420 545 521 222
  • Ostrava – Mošnov: +420 596 693 440
  • Karlovy Vary: +420 353 239 798
  • METEO of Czech Republic airports: +420 220 378 100

2. For flights above 5000 ft (1500m), the altitude must be read from the altimeter set to a standard pressure of 1013,25 HPa.

Conversion table "feet/meters" of the most commonly used heights:

Altimeter settings QNH STD 1013,25 HPa
TRACKS 300 1000 3000 3500 4000 4500 5000 FL 65 FL 75 FL 85 FL 95
METERS 100 300 900 1050 1200 1350 1500 2000 2300 2600 2900

2. Possibility of flying in TMA / CTR

Apart from TMA Prague (class "C"), these spaces are class "D" - that is, all VFR traffic must be reported to the ŘLP service. In TMA Praha, PG operation is practically impossible without a radio connection and an answering machine. In the TMA and CTR of other airports in the Czech Republic, flying is theoretically possible after the necessary prior agreement with the ŘLP, however, due to the absence of radio communication, this request will probably be rejected, with the exception of local agreements.

ŘLP contact options: Important phone numbers (ATS, LI offices, weather)

The following image is intended to highlight how close IFR traffic can be when flying close to TMA boundaries:

3. Option to fly in TRA / TSA

Scheduled TRA / TSA spaces can be activated 15 minutes in advance. At the time of activation, flights through TSA premises are prohibited, as they are used for military flights at speeds above 460 km/h at low altitudes from 100 to 300 m above the ground. It is possible to fly through the TRA premises on the basis of a permit. However, due to the absence of radio communication (mobile communication is unstable in the air) and the speed of PG due to LA 15-minute activation time, it is very difficult to coordinate the passage through these areas during the flight. However, if the pilot calls the best military post MACC FIELD +420 973 212 800 even before the start at noon, he may learn positive information that the planned space will no longer be activated that day.
