The bearing surface is a parachute glider. The undercarriage is used for propulsion, similar to the motor-rogal on which the crew sits. The device is controlled by control cords. Motor gliders are motorized paragliders without landing gear. The pilot has a kross on his back, a harness with a frame on which an engine with a propeller is placed. The pilot takes off and lands on his feet.
The acquisition costs consist of the own paraglider, which is completely identical to a normal paraglider, and the power unit, the price of which varies from 50 to 150 thousand CZK.
Operating costs are probably the lowest of all powered sport flying devices. The engines have low consumption, around 3-4 l/hour.
Training is the shortest and cheapest of all types of motorized sports flying equipment. There are sufficient number of pilot training centers where they provide quality pilot training.
The advantage of a motorized paraglider is its favorable price, extremely low operating costs, low storage space and ease of transport and independence from the terrain.
However, the paraglider is the slowest of all motorized SFDs (up to 40 km/h), so longer trips or overflights are very difficult in terms of time and the limited comfort of the pilot. The possibility of flying is highly dependent on the weather, especially on the strength and direction of the wind.
