The carrier surface is a parachute glider. For propulsion, the chassis is used in a similar way as in a powered hang glider, on which the crew sits. The device is controlled by control lines. Powered looms are powered paragliders without landing gear. The pilot wears a loom on his back, a harness with a frame on which the motor and propeller are mounted. The pilot takes off and lands on his feet.
The purchase cost consists of the paraglider itself, which is completely identical to a normal paraglider, and the power unit, the price of which ranges from 50 to 150 thousand CZK.
The operating costs are probably the lowest of all powered sport flying devices. The engines have a low consumption, around 3 - 4 l/hour.
Training is the shortest and cheapest of all types of powered sport flying devices. There are a sufficient number of pilot training centres providing quality pilot instruction.
The advantage of a powered paraglider is its favourable price, extremely low operating costs, low storage space requirements, ease of transport and independence from the terrain.
However, the paraglider is the slowest of all powered SFD gliders (up to 40 km/h), making longer trips or crossings very difficult in terms of time and limited pilot comfort. The ability to fly is highly dependent on the weather, especially the strength and direction of the wind.
