Czech pilot Jiří Pruša reached the geographic North Pole in his Shark aircraft on July 4, 2026. This is the first time in history that a modern 600kg UL/LSA aircraft has reached the North Pole.
To reach the North Pole, J. Pruša took off from Longyearbyen Airport in Spitsbergen and the journey to the pole took over 5 hours.
This is one of the most remarkable flights in light aviation and a significant milestone also for the Czech-Slovak company Shark Aero, whose aircraft was used for this demanding expedition.
The expedition began with a flight from the airport in Příbram on June 28th, and the pilot should return to his homeland with the aircraft in the coming days.
