Historically, LA 1st Junior WC in XC PG in Tolmin takes place from 18 to 31 August 8. The race is attended by Jonáš Horáček, Ondra Pohořelský, Vít Šantrůček, Kvido Hadaš and Hugo Hadaš.

#day 0

It's here, LA 1st ever XC Junior World Championship that started today in Tolmin, Slovenia (Kobal if you want). The place, known for its favorable terrain for long slopes, beautiful nature and popular with Czech pilots, will become a refuge for 12 pilots for the next 78 days, of which 5 are Czech. How many pilots out of 78, who were sent by their unions and states, will be at the start of the first task, we will see in two or three days (depending on the weather).

FAI 1 races are a little different from FAI 2 races. Stricter rules, stricter conditions, it is advisable to have a TM (Teamleader) in place, who already has experience with FAI 1 races. In our case, the TM of our expedition is 22 years old Jonáš Horáček, an excellent leading Czech pilot.

S Jonášem four more pilots were sent to the races and we dare to say that none of them is just going for numbers, but all of them will try for the best possible placing both individually and as a team. Get into the car JonášOndra Pohořelský, Vítek Śantrůček and Kvido and Hugo Hadaš joined tonight. And with them also 4 bikes, acro wings, speed fly, swimsuits, party games, work computer, Czech flag, national jersey and undoubtedly a lot of books.

It was necessary to visit the registration room by 16:00, which was done perfectly. All our pilots received a registration card, a tri-shirt, a backpack, a pizza, a promise of random checks of the technical condition of the wings and the weight of the pilot.

Among the pilots, there are those who could have a problem with their musculature, especially if they lose movement over the next two days, as the organizers of the race today decided to cancel the planned evening parade and tomorrow's practice, due to the expected rain. However, as you can see from the registration photos of our pilots, the rain did not appear and they have sun in Tolmin. TM has its members under control and its physical activity is planned down to the last detail. We believe that our pilots will be completely fit for their wings on the day of the start of the race.

After registration, the pilots attended a safety briefing, they learned that the teams will be composed of 3+1 pilots (3 men and 1 woman or 3 women and 1 man). So in our case it will be 3 + 0, and which 3 out of 5 it will be, we will inform you as soon as TM publishes the official composition of the team.

Tomorrow, due to the canceled official training, we don't have much to report from the venue of the WC, so look forward to getting to know our pilots more closely, so that you will be completely up-to-date on Tuesday, when the first task will take place (weather permitting).

The youngest participant will be able to fight in the junior championship for the next 10 years (birthday at the end of September)

The WC wakes up to a free day, as the official training was cancelled. The Czech group will have to trim, work, maybe a bike, and not only them, but we too are already looking at tomorrow's forecast for Tolmin, which does not seem to be a bad job. In Tolmin they will have the wrong wind direction, but minimal forces, minimal rain, but more clouds.

As soon as we know the organizer's plans, we will inform you about them immediately.

# task 1

Good morning to all fans of racing XC flying. It is at this moment that the TL team spends its time Jonáš Horacek at the TL briefing. At FAI 1 races, there is a team leader (TL) briefing before each task, the information is then passed on to their team.

The Czech team, as has already been said many times, consists of 5 pilots, but only 3 of them will fight for a place in the teams.

However, there are specific days, like today, when the forecasts do not give a clear choice of start. Today, due to the wind, it is expected to go to Lijak, but there will be a repeated TL briefing every 1/2 hour until 12:00. If conditions do not improve by 12pm the day will be cancelled.

The briefing takes place at the HQ - or the central location of the races, which is located in the camp. Our team is about 5 minutes away by car from HQ.

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #1. task evening

The pilots have completed their first task at the WC. Around 11:00 it was decided to fly today and the pilots were taken out due to the wind to Lijak. Our team started very well, they stayed at the front Jonáš and Hugo, followed by Ondra and Kvido with Vítek.

Today the thermals did not carry too high, as long as it was possible to slope, everyone was doing well. First the pilots flew south, then east and west. So far we have been doing well. Kvido got a little stuck when, on the way to the west, he chose a shortcut through the valley with two other pilots, but about 1/4 of the way he found out that there were no shortcuts and returned to the mountains.

On the western turn, the first group started to gain height, Hugo did not gain too much, he was the first to clink and so-called melt forward. This backfired on him again at the next point in the east. He didn't have enough height - this turning point is unfortunately surrounded by woods, Hugo had to go downhill, fell a bit and had no choice but to land. During this journey to the east again, the slope stopped working. They were now in front after the more bouncy and landed Hugo Jonáš and Dušan Šurina from Slovakia and unfortunately also failed. Jonáš landed not far from Hugo, Dušan managed to save himself.

The French and Spaniards slowed down at the start, gained a little height, and Ondřej Pohořelský also gained a little further.

To the live viewer, it seemed as if there was now only one point on the entire route where it was possible to pick up and where everyone met. Ondra met Kvid here (Ondra, however, had already flown to ESS, Kvid only to that eastern convoluted turning point).

Quido - like Hugo - did not reach the turning point and also flew to the landing - with several pilots they chose the target area for this maneuver).

Ondra reached ESS, but then it stopped working, Ondra didn't have much height and landed before the finish line.

Vítek got very stuck at the last 2 turning points, where it didn't go too well either. Vítek did not take off responsibly with a large group at a height of 750 m and was still catching up, thus losing quite a lot of time. In the end, Vítek was the only Czech who reached the finish line. When he saw it land JonášWell, he switched to rescue mode and took care. And it paid off!

There is no need to cry over spilled milk - we have completed the first task, the team leader's debriefing will be held in the evening, and each round is also cut by approx. 25%, which very simply means that after the 4th task that has been flown, more or less one of the worst will be cut. The situation is a little worse in teams where they are eliminated every time - the third worst result and no task in the end. So two pilots are scoring points, and given that it didn't go very well today, we have a lot to catch up on. On the other hand, it's always better to monitor your opponent from behind!

We believe that the guys got a bit of a feel for the terrain today, they chose bad luck, and we'll just as persistently watch and keep our fingers crossed for the second task!

ask CANCELED! The guys have to wait until two at the start, unfortunately the cars are locked, it's raining a lot everywhere, especially on their wings. The more mobile teams have their cars right at the start and the pilots and wings in the dry, the other countries let the feeling of doom wash over them and look out for the hidden pickup truck drivers

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #3. task

Yesterday was a complicated day for the organizers. The pilots were taken out to Lijak, which seemed very nice, and the pilots themselves reported to us that the day looked better than the previous one. Before the task began, however, the situation changed quickly, it became cloudy and while the Kobala was flying beautifully in the afternoon, the Lijak lived up to its name and a big downpour started.

The pilots subsequently experienced the sunny day in Tolmin, 40 km away, in different ways.

the three set out on a 40 km long bike ride, which turned into a chase for the youngest - because only one of these three is not sick. Above their heads, the French flew to Kobale on a free fly, they tasted Slovenian ice cream and gathered strength for the next racing day.

We were a little surprised that the other pilot didn't join the ride - he has his bike with him, but after publishing the video of the evening, it became clear to us why. TL is rough, he keeps his wards short, he has to be publicly weighed to see if their weight corresponds to the wing range (if any control is still in the game) and so he had to get energy somewhere that TL can't get at him. So in the air. Thank you Adventure menu , that he also thinks about the persecuted pilots of the team!

Today is already after the TL briefing, in the photo the boys are waiting for the end of the briefing and at 10:40 they left for Kobala and it is shaping up to be a nice day.

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #3. task evening

The third task in a row, the second flown. The boys got off to a great start. More or less the entire five flew in the first group. Jonáš, Ondra and Hugo unfortunately got stuck on the ridge, it took them a while to pick themselves up, so the main group skipped over them. Jonáš he managed to catch up, Ondřej was slower, Hugo was too low and it took him too long to return.

Vítek boasted that he flew very nicely, but he said it was slow (we didn't think so). Kvido is completely satisfied - the picture from Ondřej in the attachment demonstrates the gloomy mood in the room.

The juniors are said to fly quite sharply, some spin completely the opposite way, the boys say that in the gaggle it was a nice meat grinder, moreover, in the middle with not very powerful wings.

We saw different strategies - in today's task, Dušan Šurin was the first to turn away from the gaggle and chose his own path around the mountains further north, the field split and part of it flew behind us, part behind Dušan.

Seen from outside:

The boys who went to fly, but also to the experienced, flew very well. Vítek is great - the boys will fix it in the evening Jonášhis speed, they figure out what to do with Vítka's wing to make it fly faster, they take Hugo apart. Ondra is said to know where he made a mistake, and so do the others, Kvido and Vítek stir up gloom for the others. They were 5th in the teams today, moving up to 7th overall.

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #4. task

Today's task is here, the boys slept in from yesterday, it's beautiful in Tolmin, the sun is shining and we will enjoy today's 75 km long task with them.

The boys woke up today in such a good mood that they even recorded me a poetic message for moms all by themselves. We are glad that we have such nice, well-mannered and decent boys in Slovenia and no, the message did not have to be fundamentally cut.

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #4. task evening

It was a beautiful task today. It wasn't exactly easy, rather, it was challenging!

Right at the start, four of our guys made it to 2000 m, but Vítek got below the level of the hill on the west side of the starting circle and fought very hard to get up to at least a level where he could turn a quality climber. He managed to do that approx. 15 minutes before the opening of the starting window, he joined the first group and more or less did not get out of it for the entire race!

Today, the pilots were treated to very broken air, they were looking for the wing above their heads everywhere possible, and even in these conditions it was necessary to stand constantly in speed and push the wing forward, otherwise they knew that they would not have a chance.

At the first jump, the group split up. He led the southern group Jonáš Pilot burner and they flew a shorter route, but at about 1300 m. The northern group was led by @dušan šurina and Flavio Funiati. The pilots in the north flew a much longer route, but at almost 2000 m. Just after Kobarid, about 1/4 of the length of the track to the first turning point, Daphne Leropoli, an excellent French pilot, had a major collapse. The pilots around Daphne could only see a large spiral toward the ground, which Daphne picked out above the ground and went straight for a landing. The French team is now, with the help of other pilots, solving why the collapse occurred and checking the technical condition of their female pilot's wing.

After turning the first turning point, the whole day continued in much the same fashion. Strong, turbulent air, the need to be constantly on the alert in every turn, because the pilots here turn very sharply and often beyond the edge of safety. Big evasive maneuvers, negatives, wingovers - in this championship you need to be able to fly and have a wing in your hands.

Fantastic in the first group today Vit Santrucek together with Ondřej Pohořelský. They flew to ESS after the fantastic performance of Dušan Šurina from Slovakia, who took 1st place on the second day in a row to 8th, or 9th place, but thanks to Leadingpoints - LP - points for leading the group during the flight, Vítek got to 6th place in today's task. After them, he flew to LA 13th position Jonáš Horáček and Hugo Hadaš in 18th place.

Kvido downgraded the target a bit for us when he flew for quite a long time, relatively low over the river, because it was said to be the only place where he could land safely and in the end he was approx. 50 m before the target at a height of approx. 23 m. , but today all the boys have a goal again.

Now a well-deserved evening's rest and gathering strength for tomorrow, when they will be in the air again and fly another mission. You can fly 5 days in a row, the sixth day the pilots must have a day off. This has not yet come true, the weather is still good and we can look forward to another colorful day.

CURRENT THINGS

8 teams out of 20 have 3+1 - i.e. a woman, Japan has only 1 - just that 1 woman, and in the individual tasks in the top ten teams, 1x woman scored for the USA, 1x for Switzerland, 1x for Germany and 2x for France.

The Slovaks have only two pilots in the race and are currently occupying the 8th place

The French team lost a big favorite at the World Championships - Ivan Haas, who unfortunately injured his ankle while free flying during the day off, and thus says goodbye not only to the race, but also to his probably last junior race.

The youngest participant in the WC is the pilot of Slovenian-English origin @mark janaway - 16 years old. The second youngest participant is the Czech pilot Hugo Hadaš - 16 years old.

There are two pilots in the Czech team who, like Ivan Haas, are saying goodbye to the junior category with this race and will be moving to the senior category next year, namely Ondřej Pohořelský and @vít šantrůček

The organizer has not yet announced that there will be a party/party at the WC (the Spanish pilots very willingly offered to take it on the organizers if the party does not take place)

WC Junior XC – Tolmin 2024 #5. task evening

Today in a nutshell: fantastic victory by Ondřej, great place Jonáše, an excellent flight by Hugo, until the moment when, unlike the others, he did not choose -4 and avoid. Excellent flight for Ondra Kvida, until the moment he got sprayed. Failure to intersect Vítek's starting circle, the collapse and drag of Dušan Šurina, the subsequent knock-out and instead of a big spin-out, and a successful flight onward. Excellent Jonášova's choice of route and putting everyone behind him by a few lengths - yet in the end he couldn't resist the group.

And now in more detail:

We have information that it was very windy, the flight was quite sharp - the whole time it was flying at speed near the rocks, it was mainly about who could hold full speed. Towards the end, Ondra and his party caught a great riser, Jonáš he himself camped 6 km further. Then the valley in the distance, where nothing went and where decisions were made. Ondra was said to be behind, but he had the height and the glide to the finish was said to be free, where he gained another 200 m.

Very windy start, uncomfortable on the ridge, the guys thought that there was safety level 2 for sure, level 3 for weaker wings.

The mountains were better, Dušan came close to his snapping, spinning and twisting there, but he flew away from the hill and got out of the situation without any problems and flew on.

Ondřej's victory is great, the boys brought the team closer in points to the places above them and went to wash away all the stress in the evening.

We are very much looking forward to the next task, we are glad that all our boys are fine in the competition with sharp boys, that they are flying well and, according to the videos, there is a good mood in the team. Ondřej's beautiful flight to the finish line:

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #6. task

Máme za sebou briefing TL dnešního dne, jede se na Kobalu. A co se TL mimo jiné dozvěděli? Řešil se mimo jiné včerejší task. TL byli nabádáni, aby neváhali svým pilotům sdělit, že hlášení levelů 2 a 3 není ostuda.

Pro neznalé: na každém závodě je před první úlohou volena tzv. safety komise. Na MS je tato komise ve složení:

Philipp Haag (German Team leader)

Tato komise interaguje s ředitelem závodu a řeší zásadní bezpečnostní otázky. Mimo komisi však může během úlohy každý pilot do vysílačky na vybrané bezpečnostní frekvenci zahlásit tzv. Level 2 (ne zcela dobré podmínky, zhoršující se stav), nebo Level 3 (nelétatelné). V případě, že pilot zahlásí Level 3, musí neprodleně po hlášení přistát. Level 3 nesmí hlásit ze země, musí být v okamžiku hlášení ve vzduchu a přistání následuje ihned poté. Jedná se o možnost pilotů, jak organizátorovi sdělit špatné podmínky, které se vytvořily během úlohy.

Dále se TL dozvěděli, že se dnes pojede na Kobalu, bude foukat východní vítr 3–5 m/s, ovšem s možným deštěm kolem Kobaridu a také s možnou bouřkou v Gemoně a na severu od Bovce. Pokud by se bouřka blížila příliš rychle, organizátor stopne task a piloti musí po stopnutí neprodleně přistát. Následně je při skórování závodu brána v potaz mimo jiné i výška pilota v době pozastavení tasku.

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #6. Task večer

Další z náročných úloh ukončena. Jednalo se dnes o 60 km dlouhý task s mnoha pendly, opět s letem na plném speedu nad skalami. Češi startovali spolu s několika francouzskými piloty úplně nakonec, aby záhy nabrali do 2200 m a aby odlétali ve 14. hodin s první skupinou na trať.

Nejmladší člen týmu, Hugo, nám včera poskytl pár informací a zážitků z MS a svěřil se, že by asi bylo taktičtější létat například za španělskými piloty, ale že nerad létá za někým. Dnes to bylo dlouho vidět. Druhý otočný bod cinknul jako první. Následně bral prim Jonáš Horáček, kterého střídalo na první pozici pár pilotů. Ondra se držel v uctivé vzdálenosti od první skupinky, ale nepatřil ještě do druhé. Vítek letěl chvíli více vzadu, pak vybral zcela originální stopu a předletěl jižně celé pole a na chvíli se usadil v popředí. Kvido si kontroloval cca 20. příčku.

Na nejvzdálenějším bodu trasy vyřešil velké klapnutí anglický pilot Josh Sanderson záložkou, přistál na strom, slezl ze stromu, ale vítr byl jiného názoru a výbavu mu prostřednictvím unesené záložky přetáhl za kopec. Nad Joshem, jenž byl před dnešním taskem 10. v celkovém pořadí, přelétávala v době jeho pobytu na stromě celá první skupina. Byli od organizátora včas upozorněni do vysílačky, že je Josh v pořádku a nepotřebuje pomoci.

Poslední třetina trati byla rychlá, piloti dolétli do cíle poměrně brzy a téměř vzápěti, co se dozvěděli, že bude zítra volný den, začali plánovat španělský večírek, neboť o oficiálním večírku závodu zatím žádné zprávy. Mezikulturní sdružování pilotů, uvolnění ze stresových situací a vzájemné poznávání je přitom velmi důležité a určitě patří k benefitům prvního juniorského MS.

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #7. task

Rest day je minulostí a opět do práce! Piloti si řádně odpočinuli, někdo pracoval, někdo se koupal, někdo hrál volejbal, hodně pilotů naspávalo dopředu. V kempu zbyly spousty baget, určených pro občerstvení na včerejší den, večer se trimovalo a nabíralo se sil na další náročné dny.

Nic není rozhodnuté, každý den se škrtá cca 25 % ve složitém přepočtu, takže v závislosti na počtu tasků může nakonec ve zjednodušeném výpočtu dojít ke škrtnutí 2,25 tasků. Nezbývá nám tedy, než čekat na konec závodu, držet palce za dobré počasí a klukům přát, aby se jim dobře letělo.

Dnes po briefingu TL piloty vyvezli na Lijak, není úplně jisté, zda se poletí, budeme vás záhy informovat.

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #8. task

Včerejší den nakonec zrušen, piloti kitovali, volně létali, skákali z mostu do řeky, plavali.

Dnes na briefingu TL rozhodli o čase vyhlášení, o dnešním tasku. Kluci zatím čekají na Jonáše po skončení briefingu TL a poté vyrazí svozovými auty na start.

Proslýchá se, že bude velmi dlouhý task, hlídejte livetracking – odkaz níže a my, hned jak se dostaneme do civilizace a k wifi, pošleme další info.

Fouká silný západní vítr, volnolítači se zatím moc neprosazují. Task je vypsán 90,8 km pouze v udolí Tolminu. Mraky jsou hezky naskákané.

Včerejší den nakonec zrušen, piloti kitovali, Našim pilotům se dostalo po přistání po free fly skvělého přivítání rodiny Jonáše spolu se 48 řízky, bramborovým salátem, bublaninou…

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #9. task večer

Dnes byl na MS naplánován předposlední task. Po třech dnech, kdy se neletělo – jeden volný den a dva dny zrušené – dnes skutečně na task došlo. Piloti měli trochu obavu z velkého větru, což se neukázalo na startu. Odstrartovalo se v klidu a závodníci se vydali z Kobaly na Lijak.

Jonáš letěl velmi rychle před skupinou, bohužel se mu rychlý let sám stal osudným a záhy přistál. Piloti se vydávali k dalším otočňákům, ten cinknul jako první Hugo, měl však poměrně malou výšku. Skupinka za ním dotáčela ještě před otočňákem, Hugo nabíral v něm, ale na výšku skupiny – 1100 m – nedosáhl.

Dopředu se během dobírání skupiny dostali celkem rychle Ondra i Vítek, za nimi dolétával Kvido. Začínaly být vidět blesky nad Lijakem, zatím se ještě nezvedal zásadně vítr, stále byla úloha spuštěna a ke stopnutí došlo až o něco později.

Všichni piloti skončili po stopnutí tasku na zemi v pořádku. Poté je však čekala ještě řádná sprška, schovávání batohů, kde se dá, neboť svozy si dávaly na čas, večerní koupání a příprava na poslední den.

Před posledním taskem si z česko-slovenských pilotů nejlépe vede Dušan Šurina jun. Na současném 3. místě, Ondra Pohořelský na 6. místě a český tým je na průběžné 6. pozici.

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 #10. task

Poslední den, poslední task, užít si Slovinsko, Tolmin a konec historicky prvního MS juniorů. Na fotce možné maximální a minimální skóre pilotů do 37. místa.

MS Juniorů XC – Tolmin 2024 poslední den

Poslední den MS, poslední task. Velké nasazení pilotů a také mnohá zklamání. Organizátor hned zrána piloty ve skupině obeznámil s momentální situací, tedy s možným maximálním a minimálním ziskem případných bodů, čímž některé, zdá se dle následného průběhu dnešního tasku, trochu prsychicky rozladil. Piloti na prvních místech měli potenciální vzestup či pád z pozice celkem otevřený. dnešním taskem 4. Dušan Šurina útočil se stabilně vysokými výsledky ze všech předchozích tasků. Flavio Funiati útočil též, ovšem s jedním taskem nižším. Nakonec přistáli předčasně oba, což se stalo osudným Flaviovi a Dušan získal celkové 3. místo.

Nebyli sami, kdo přistáli, na livetreckingu se plocha oranžověla ikonami panáčků, které se změní z padáčku v okamžiku přistání, ve vzduchu uletěli všem tři piloti, mezi kterými byl náš Ondra Pohořelský a bohužel další tři uletěli zbylé skupince, kde byl na celkověm 7. místě dnes Hugo. Češi tak získali v posledním tasku již pořetí 2. místo v týmech a nakonec obhájili krásné celkové 5. místo!

Celý závěr byl ale již druhý den po sobě celkem dramatický, piloti přistávali po stopnutém tasku za masivní podpory okolních bouřek, u špatně umístěné flery na přistávací ploše,a také po zážitku házení záložky jednoho ze zahraničních pilotů. Naši kluci měli na přistávačce dnes auto a mohli tak rychle schovat křídla, než jim stačila zmoknout.

Dnes 3. Ondra Pohořelský byl na CIVL vyhlášen pod hlavičkou SVK. Poslední den se jednou větou obzvláště povedl.

Na večerní vyhlášení nastoupili kluci v reprezentačních dresech, byli slušní, milí, smutní…..

Mistrovství světa bylo pro ně ve všem dobrém i zlém výbornou zkušeností. Kluci se zmiňují, že bylo skvělé být účastníkem závodů s čistě juniorskými piloty. Oproti ostatním závodům si všímali jiné mentallity na zemi, jiné ve vzduchu. Byli jednoznačně obohaceni.

Bilancovat budou jistě nejen oni a dva z nich se již na MS juniorů nepodívají, neboť jim to nedovolí věk. Dva z nich se budou moci účastnit ještě 4 roky a jeden ještě dalších 10 let!

5. místo v týmech, 6. (Ondra Pohořelský), 11. (Vít Šanrůček), 13. (Jonáš Horáček), 27. (Hugo Hadaš) a 34. (Kvido Hadaš) místo, toto umístění dává tušit, že se naši mladí piloti mezi ostrými hochy a dívkami světa vůbec neztratili.
