Initial information about the UL Corby Starlet plane accident on 1/1/2023 in Hodkovice

On January 1, 2023, in the midday hours, an air accident occurred at the airport in Hodkovice nad Mohelkou of a single-seater all-wooden UL airplane Corby Starlet. The pilot was flying from the west and made a left turn to the flyover in the direction of runway 01. He was flying at a very high speed and at the end of the turn, the left half of the wing broke off and landed in the airport forecourt. The UL aircraft in a steep descent and in a left rotation about the longitudinal axis hit the ground at high speed at the beginning of runway 01, where it disintegrated. The pilot suffered fatal injuries.
The causes of the air accident are being investigated by the ÚZPLN commission.
At present, all that can be said is that the flight speed was very high, probably exceeding the limits of the machine. We therefore draw the attention of all pilots to the necessity of observing the restrictions set out in the flight manual.
